At our annual retreat, the Board of Directors selects which charities the club will support for the upcoming year. For the 2015/16 year, the Phoenix Ski Club proudly supports the following charities:
In 1993, the Phoenix Ski Club adopted a 2 ½ mile stretch of highway from the Saguaro Lake Road (Bush Highway) junction with the SR 87 (Beeline Highway) to the Saguaro Lake overflow parking area. Since that time, the club routinely picks up the trash twice a year – fall and spring. From 1993 until the spring of 2014, Anna and Gary Pfender coordinated our clean-up events. Since their move, Paul and Debby Castaldo are carrying on with coordinating our support of this charity.
Founded in 1988 with a specific goal of meeting the personal hygiene needs of the homeless and working poor. They are the only agency in the greater Phoenix area that focuses on meeting this very important need by distributing toiletry kits through agencies and shelters that work directly with the homeless and working poor. The Phoenix Ski Club supports their efforts by contributing those free mini-toiletry items from hotels and donating new socks and underwear. People bring in their donations to the PSC General Meeting and from there, the coordinator delivers them to the Shoebox Ministry, located in Scottsdale. Currently, Carla Kramer is the coordinator for this charity.
